PROJECT BACKGROUND
CLLEX Phase 1 is a four-lane, 30km expressway that passes through the municipalities of La Paz in Tarlac, and Zaragoza and Aliaga in Nueva Ecija. This project will link SCTEX and TPLEX in Balincanaway, Tarlac. The entire route
for CLLEX Phase 2 is located in Nueva Ecija passing through municipalities of Cabanatuan, Natividad, Llanera, and San Jose.
To build pavements, an embankment was raised several feet above ground level to prevent flood.
Raising of embankment pavement formed side slopes that required protection to prevent scouring. Drainage structures consisting of horizontal and vertical drains were built on both sides of the slopes.
Bare embankment
slopes formed through backfilling were stabilized using erosion control materials. Instead of concrete, bioengineering was opted to solve erosion problems. The slopes were covered with coconets and sprayed with grass seeds
with mulches using hydroseeding. Grass will provide soft yet stable surface cover when it becomes fully grown.
